Chalcedony is the most important variety of polycrystalline quartz. Its grains are very fine and it can be semi-transparent to translucent; it comes in a multitude of colors.
The term "chrysoprase" is used to describe the apple green to darker green variety of chalcedony stained by nickel (Ni). The word chrysoprase comes from the Greek and means "gold" and "green". It is one of the most valuable varieties of the chalcedony family.
