Iolite is one of the few stones that shows pleochroism. It can be purplish blue to colorless and yellowish depending on the angle of observation. It is very easy to distinguish from other stones of this color.
This suite of iolites includes 10 pairs of round cabochons between 4.70 mm and 9.50 mm and a magnificent pear measuring 13.10 x 8.90 mm. The pear and the larger cabochons are a saturated purple and the smaller cabochons are a pretty pastel purple offering a superb color gradient.
